When you step into a hat shop, you probably won’t be familiar with most of the hat styles. Evolution is a constant in terms of fashion and design, for example red hats are popular today and certain styles appear to last forever. The following is a brief summary of the most recent styles in hats, along with traditionally popular designs.

Cowboy hats remain popular with more than just cowboys. A lot of folks who enjoy country and western themes favor cowboy or western hats too. No longer are these hats solely for guys; lots of ladies are sporting vividly colored, stylish western hats, such as a red hat.

Top hats are an appealing option as well, typically worn at formal affairs like marriage ceremonies and formal dances. Some gals even have started sporting top hats, distinguished by adornment with floral and ribbon accents, for instance.

The 1800s introduced the world to the sailor or boater hat. It has a flat crown, single ribbon band, consists of straw, is stiff and hard and is called the straight brim hat. While it’s not as common as it once was, many children and women still wear it today.

Bowler styles, referred to alternatively as Derbys, feature upturned sides, a curved brim and a crown that is not deep. Bowlers are typically constructed of stiff felt, dating back to its launch as a safeguard for horse riders’ vulnerable heads. This remains a favorite of ladies and youngsters even now.

Women’s fashion has incorporated what was formerly the men’s fedora into its mainstream. Modern women wear fedoras plain or ornately decorated with bows, ribbons, or tule. Guys still look terrific wearing fedora styles, but they probably won’t adorn them.

And don’t leave out the baseball cap which is a traditional old standby. Nearly all of us have at least one of these, since they are very handy and available in a broad array of designs and logos.

No mater your style there is hat for you. When you’re dressing formally, or going for a casual look, or even covering up a “bad hair day” - anytime is the right time for a hat.
